Chapter 2: When It Rains

Vogel woke up when she heard the creek flooding and her fur and feathers soaking wet. She shook herself off and looked around. Thunder roared in the distance. The trees were waving in the harsh wind. Rain struck everything like a bullet. Vogel looked around and remembered the egg. It would be cold now.

She walked over rather calmly and picked it up. She walked into the tree opening and snuggled the egg in her mane. It felt cold and wet. Vogel walked out leaving the egg and picked up the mat. She put it over the kiln to make a makeshift roof. She then placed the egg next to it and grabbed some dry firewood. She lit a fire in the kiln and let it burn. The rain kept blowing into the flamed which was putting it out. Vogel decided that what she was doing was pointless and snatched the egg and walked back into the tree.

Vogel snuggled the egg till it was warm and hoped it lived.

She fell back asleep feeling rather restless.

When she woke up, a few trees had fallen she noticed. She stud up and the egg fell on her hands. She yelped in surprise and a bit of pain. She had forgotten it was there.

She put the egg in a bowl-like pot and grabbed an Axe. She wanted to clear out the dead trees. Thunder growled in the distance. She hoped the storm wouldn’t come back. Vogel began clearing an old tree that was resting where the mat would be. She hit the bark with the stone Axe and it just dented. She felt like she’d be there for an eternity clearing this tree. She kept hitting it to no avail and just moved it out of the way. Very suspicious to any scouts.

All of the sudden, right as she was thinking “This cant get any worse” a four winged dragon flew above. A rat like tail waving behind it. She ran into the big tree and covered the entrance with the mat on the kiln. She held her breath in fear. The dragon flew by but Vogel knew that have must have been a Moonlight scout. She hoped they didn’t notice anything weird. She peaked her head out of the tree and saw nothing.

She thought it was all clear and stepped out. With a “Ka-Thud!” the large Ta-wig Dragon landed rather gracefully. Vogel leaped backwards with her fur standing on end and her mane poofed.

jeez, I didn’t mean to scare you so bad!” The large dragon whined

Go away! Why are you here! Don’t take it! I mean-” Vogel shuddered

Calm down ma’am, I mean no harm.”

Why are you here?!”

I just wanted to give you this.” The Ta-wig handed her a piece of papyrus that had a hand drawn picture of the male Tawney from the base covered in blood. Vogel’s eyes widened.

He has attacked and killed several beings screaming “Its rotten!!!” He said. “Do you know anything about him?”

She thought about him. He must have gone crazy. A pellet of rain hit Vogel in the face. Last time she remembered he had been involved in many relationships that didn’t go very well. He was love sick. “Erm, lady? Are you okay?” Vogel shook her head. I’m sorry, but I d-don’t have any in-information” The scaled beast handed her the flier. “Here, keep this.” Vogel took it and read the flier.

With that, the dragon took to the sky. Vogel looked again at the flier, and stuck it on the wall of the tree. She planned on burning it later. She didn’t want to think of the father, Madsey. She took the pot the egg was in and placed it in the clay nest that was now soggy. She finished moving the old dead tree out of the way. She moved the mat back on to it’s respective area. Thunder boomed in the distance followed by a flash. Still gonna rain.

Rain wasn’t Vogel’s favorite thing because it got her wet and made firewood wet. It also melted uncooked pots till it was nothing but orange mush. Sometimes she got sick.

It was most likely going to rain again. Vogel walked up to the large fallen tree and yanked a huge chunk of bark off of It. It was soggy and came off easily. She plopped it on top of the kiln and lit a fire. “This would keep us warm,” she thought. She picked up the pot with the egg in it and set it next to it. The weak fire. The side of the egg felt hot and she rotated the egg. It felt hot again and she rotated it. Again. That side felt hot so she just smothered that side in mud. Now it wont burn. Hopefully tomorrow will bring a better day.
